Day 40 Aug. 19th, 2004 @ 01:01 am
Yesterday I had my annual check-up. I don't mind going to the doctor's, because they always tell me I have perfect this and that and that there's nothing wrong with me.

We took Marieke to the shore. Even I, having lived in NJ for five years, have never truly been "down the shore". I go to the beach, okay? Jenkinson's Pavillion, Point Pleasant. It was crowded with dirty people, but other than that, it was fine. I forgot how much I loved riding waves.

Day 39 Aug. 17th, 2004 @ 02:30 am
Wednesday was a good day.
Marieke and I took the train from Hoboken and got off at Christopher St.
I had a whole bunch of stuff planned to show her in the lower Manhattan area.

I <3 the Village.

» Day 36
On Friday we left for Washington. The drive down was okay. Some traffic.
After we got there, as far as I can remember all we did was walk around to some monuments.

The District. )

» Day 34 & 35
Wednesday night I took Marieke to Montclair for her first and probably last show. The band that was playing when we came in was doing nothing but screaming. It was so bad. A bunch of my friends ended up going too so we all sat around in the lounge area, went to cafe eclectic and saw awesome people like Boris who I haven't seen in ages, then some people came over and we watched The Indian In the Cupboard. It was a good night.

Thursday I went to Six Flags. First we went to the drive through safari. It was pretty cool.

» Day 32 & 33
Haven't been doing all that much the past couple of days.

I went to practice for the first time the day before yesterday. It was good seeing everyone again. The plan was for Daphny and I to leave straight from practice to Montclair to meet Zach & Marieke at the cinema. However, I didn't realize I put my lock on my locker without remembering the combination, and it turned into this whole ordeal and we ended up getting there 45 minutes late with my stuff still locked in my locker.
Ate at the soda pop shop and saw Garden State. It wasn't bad, and I was already in love with every song on the soundtrack.

Last night Jeph drove us to Hoboken and we took the PATH into the city.
On the train in some weird guy somehow worked himself into our conversation and we decided he might have been high.
Both of them know nothing a bout the subway so I had to tell them where to go, which was weird. We went to Amsterdam/10th Avenue for no real reason, and just walked down Columbus, hitting Starbucks and Tower Records.

Since I don't actually BUY CDs, I just took a picture to remember the tracks on the Garden State soundtrack. I already have just about all them.

She wanted a picture in front of the largest post office in the world. Hating flash comes at a price when you can't hold your hand still.

On the train home we listened to Stars and it was beautiful.

One day I really just want to go in to the city do nothing but ride the subway all day and watch people.

This weekend we went to Boston. Always a good place to visit...well, maybe not in January.

Beantown! )

» Day 27
Yesterday was nice. Did more New York tourist stuff.
South Street Seaport, Harbor Cruise, Wall Street, Empire State Building, Broadway Musical...

» Day 24
Yesterday was lovely. Dad and I did our usual summer thing of going bike-riding in central park, but this time we took Marieke along. The weather was great. We showed her all the things one should see in Central Park.

Strawberry Fields Forever! )

Came home, ate dinner on the patio, watched a film.
Today we're taking her to her first shopping mall!

» Day 23
Today was good.
I woke up at 7 something, because that's 1 PM Dutch time, but forced myself to stay in bed until 9.
Drove into the city and had a late lunch at a Mexican place below Grand Central.

We walked around 5th Avenue, Rockefellar Center, Times Square - that sort of stuff.

Some guy was giving out two for one tickets for Madame Toussauds' Wax Museum, and we had time, so we decided why not. It was awfully crowded but the wax museum is always a good time.

Famous people in wax. )

Marieke seems to think NY's pretty cool. For me it was just weird to hear everyone around me speaking English, that and paying sales tax.

Came home, and later Daphny and Dave came over and hung out for a while. Took a ride in Dave's new car and watched Jackie Chan.

NEED SLEEP. CURRENTLY 6 AM IN HOLLAND.

» Day 17
I woke up early this morning to go to Rotterdam, but when I was eating breakfast Marieke informed me that the boy she wanted to see there was not going to Rotterdam after all, and that it is an ugly city and we shouldn't spend that much money to take a train there, so I went back to sleep for a bit.

Her mom drove us to the village of Thorn, which they pronouce ''torin'', to see sand sculptures of all things.
This year's theme was the American West, which I found absolutely hilarious.
They had signs saying "OK Corral'' and ''Tombstone'' and people dressed up like cowboys and I just looked arround it was so obvious that we were in goddamn Holland and the fact that I have been to the REAL OK Corral in Tombstone just made it better.
Well, here are the pictures:

The wild west - in Dutch sand. )

After that we walked around the village for a while.

They call it the white village, apparently. )

And that was pretty much my day.

I am going to Paris tomorrow and I am unhappily overly apathetic about it.

» Day 16
At 16.30 I rode to the city with Marieke to the cafe, and from there I wandered around in the city alone for my first and last time. I had a nice feeling of contentness.

Maastricht is my second home. )

» Day 15
Yesterday I went to the capital of Europe, and what is very well the most international city in the world, Brussels, Belgium.
Some people don't like Brussels, I only got to spend a short time there, but I think it's an intriguing city. Every street name is in both Dutch and French, and everyone speaks AT LEAST English, Dutch and French, and to someone like me who loves international everything, that's pretty cool. A lot of important stuff happens in Brussels, too, with the home of the EU and all.
We went to this Brussels museum which was interesting, but no cameras allowed.

Brussels - capital of Europe. )

Now I'm going with Marieke to the city to the cafe where she works, and I'm going to walk around and then hang out with some people.
